This page is designed to answer basic technical questions regarding the GSI3D software itself.
If you need more general information on the Research Consortium
please refer to the Consortium FAQ.
- What should I do if I have a problem installing or activating the software license?
If you are a consortium member and experience a problem with installing or activating the software please
first make sure you have followed the instructions in this PDF document. If you are still having problems, please contact the helpdesk via e-mail using the
address provided with your license activation key. If you are not a consortium member and have a problem with installing the demo version please contact the enquiries team.
- I have installed the software, but it will not start up.
Many start-up issues can be solved by undertaking the following steps:
1) First, if you are using Windows 7: Sometimes your logon account for Windows 7 does not have sufficient
priviledges to run GSI3D (and other software). Make sure you are running the GSI3D shortcut using administrator
priviledges, which can be done via the right-click options on the shortcut.
2) For any version of Windows: GSI3D has a 3D graphics window which is sometimes not compatible with your computer's graphics card driver. This
incompatibility is often the cause of GSI3D failing to start up.
In the first instance you should run the updater for your graphics card drivers. This appears to be more common on Windows 7 than on XP.
3) If you are using Windows 7: The default location for software on some versions of Windows 7 is a Program Files folder
with parentheses or brackets in the name something like this "(x 86)". This can cause problems with the software. Re-run the installer and choose a
different installation folder without any parentheses in the folder name. Make sure to run the installation as an administrator.
If these steps do not resolve your problem please contact the helpdesk by email.
- Will my v2.6 model files load into v2011?
Yes. Project files generated within v2.6 can be loaded into v2011 of GSI3D.
- What do I need to run GSI3D?
A computer with a good graphics card. GSI3D should run on most platforms
but the performance of the software will depend on how powerful your
computer is. Depending on your computer and your organisation's IT policies,
you may need to enable administrator privileges on the machine.
For more details see the technical data page.
- What should I do if I have a problem with using the software that is not covered by the FAQs?
If you are a consortium member and experience a problem with using the software please contact
the helpdesk via e-mail using the address provided with your documentation or license activation key. In some licensed versions of the software the
helpdesk email address is displayed via Help > Contact helpdesk within the GSI3D software.
